SCC’s Rina Gill says City of Surrey made a mistake by installing pay parking on 137th Street

SCC     News Releases, Rina Gill     0

I’ve been hearing buzz in the community and in the media about business owners being upset with the parking meters that were installed on 137th Street in the Newton area of Surrey.  I’ve seen Letters to the Editors from business owners in the area in both the mainstream and ethnic media. Up until now, nothing has been done. Since I live in Newton, I frequent this area quite often and when I noticed the parking meters, I indirectly avoided parking there as well. I usually spend an extra 5-10 minutes searching for free parking and then end up walking quite

SCC has consistently supported an open dialogue on the Wards System

SCC     Rina Gill     0

Wards System is in the news again and this time, we need to keep the dialogue going. Citizens need to be educated on the benefits of implementing a Wards System in Surrey. The Surrey Civic Coalition has been attempting to do this for many years without the support of the current Surrey City Council, with the exception of Councillor Bob Bose. SCC has been an advocate of the Wards System since 2002 and I’ve been pushing for Wards for many years. Councillor Bose has attempted to get this motion for referendum passed many times. Most recently he tried a few

SCC to host Forum for Surrey’s Trucking community on November 4

SCC     News Releases, Rina Gill     0

The Surrey Civic Coalition will be hosting another forum for the trucking community Friday, November 4 at 7pm at its campaign office, 109-12414 82 Ave. Rina Gill, an SCC candidate for City Council, has been working with the trucking community for years in an attempt to “find solutions to lack of safe, adequate truck parking facilities in Surrey.” She said the main focus of the forum is to address the “lack of action on truck parking issues by the current Surrey City Council,” and, just as importantly, give the truckers a platform to discuss other issues they may be experiencing.

Gill encourages the community to support the Surrey Urban Farmers Market

SCC     Rina Gill     0

Last Wednesday, I visited the Surrey Urban Farmers Market near the North Surrey Rec Centre and Surrey Central Skytrain station. It was great to see local farmers and businesses out there selling their produce. There was a steady crowd coming through while I was there; however, I would definitely like to see more people coming out to support the market. It runs every Wednesday afternoon from 1pm to 6pm until the end of September – so there is still time to take advantage of the fresh, delicious options available to us! In 2009, I sat on the Board of Directors

Gill says wards system would help citizens access Councillors

SCC     Rina Gill     0

I’ve spoken with many folks who are expressing frustration with not being able to speak with any City Councillors in their time of need.  After multiple phone calls and numerous messages, they move on to the next Councillor in hopes of getting a response. This process repeats until the citizen finally gets fed up and stops trying. Even if there is a response, the follow-up process takes a while. Ultimately, citizens have expressed a desire to have one specific Councillor responsible for their local area. Surrey can easily be separated into constituencies, or wards, just as it’s done on the

Gill suggests limits for Surrey Council expense accounts

Rina Gill     Rina Gill     0

Link to Article in the Surrey Leader [ Alternate Link ] The Surrey Leader published an article on Monday, July 4th “Surrey Council price tag increases”.  I do understand that there is a huge commitment associated with holding the position of Councillor in the City of Surrey, which indeed is growing at a rapid pace. I believe the salary of $62,000 can be justified, however I would like to see the expenses handled in a transparent, fair and efficient manner. I would like to suggest that Council implement a cap on expenses overall. The total expenses for the 8 councillors
