I am a young business woman and community volunteer with abundant energy and fresh ideas. Surrey has many diverse communities and my vision is to nurture neighbourhoods by better engaging the public.
My name is Rina Gill. I am an ambitious well-connected entrepreneur who is very active in Surrey through extensive volunteer work with community organizations, events and charities. After building up years of work experience, I started my own marketing company in Fall 2007. Around the same time, I successfully launched the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) – Vancouver Business Council and became the National Director of B.C. Operations. My volunteer efforts with ICCC have allowed me to work very closely with the Surrey business community and build strong partnerships. Over the years, I have also been involved with the YWCA Single Mothers Housing Committee, Vancouver Multicultural Society, Surrey Urban Farmers Market and the Newton Advocacy Group Society, just to name a few. I have also had the honor of being a Miracle Maker for “World of Smiles” Telethon (raising funds for BC Children’s Hospital).
In June 2008, I received the ICCC “Member of the Year” award and took on additional responsibilities as the Vice-President of Marketing and Communications. In March 2009, I was honored with the Shakti (Strength) Award in the Community Service category. Then in March 2010, I was nominated for the Surrey Board of Trade Women in Business Award in the Entrepreneur Category.
In May of 2009, I had the honour of working on MLA Sue Hammell’s provincial election campaign. Sue was not only re-elected, she also received the highest percentage of votes in the entire province of BC! I have volunteered on many elections on both the Provincial and Federal levels of government.
Overall, I take great pride in getting involved with community initiatives, helping people and making a difference! In November 2008, I ran for Surrey City Council with the Surrey Civic Coalition and missed by one spot (9th place) with 18,888 votes. The next election for Surrey City Council is scheduled for Saturday, November 19th, 2011 and I’m looking forward to running again with the Surrey Civic Coalition. I would appreciate your support and will work hard to make Surrey an even better place to live, work and play.
