  • Teacher for more than 30 years in Peace River, Cariboo-Chilcotin and currently at Langley Secondary School
  • Lived in Surrey for 12 years
  • Serve as an elected Councillor on the BC College of Teachers
  • Past President, Langley Teachers’ Association
  • Enjoy coaching soccer, golf, gardening and travel
  • Daughter graduated from Earl Marriott Secondary

The Board of Education must be persistent and committed advocates for public education to ensure adequate funding and resources from the provincial government to truly meet the needs of all students.

I was an SCC Board of Education candidate in the 2008 election and am seeking the nomination again this year. I want to be part of a strong Board of Education team.

• born in Cape Town, South Africa.
• immigrated to Canada and attended high school in Kamloops.

• studied at UBC

• teacher at Langley Secondary School (also taught in Fort St. John and Williams Lake)

• served as Langley Teachers’ Association President and is currently on the LTA Executive

• currently serve as chairperson of the BCTF Finance Committee: a representative on the BCTF staff pension advisory committee; and elected councilor serving on the BC College of Teachers representing the Langley-Maple Ridge Zone

• serve on the New Westminister and District Labour Council Executive

I pledge to:

Work with the community to ensure that school capital construction meets the needs of a growing school district and reduces Surrey’s dependence on portables

Work with parents and teachers to ensure that the resources and funding for education meet the demands of a growing school community

Improve the working conditions for teachers and the learning conditions for students by committing to comply, if elected, with the recent Supreme Court decision striking down Bill 27 and 28.

Lobby the provincial government to ensure that there is sufficient funding to address compliance with the recent Supreme Court decision striking down Bill 27/28

Ensure that there is adequate support, funding and resources for students with special needs

Strengthen multicultural educational programs and support the development of new programs to fight racism and bullying in schools.

Work with the community to lobby the provincial government to commit funding and support to address the issue of child poverty in Surrey.
