Having a special needs daughter has given me a greater understanding of what cutbacks to education really mean. Surrey needs more SCC trustees who aren’t afraid to stand up to Victoria and fight for our share.
I currently serve as a Trustee for the Surrey Board of Education. I am also a successful realtor with Century 21 Coastal Realty. I bring the Board of Education a combination of professional and educational experience, strong analytical abilities and management skills.
My first experience in politics was when I ran for Surrey Council as an independent in 2005. I then joined the Surrey Civic Coalition and ran as a Trustee candidate in 2008, and was elected to the Board of Education.
My wife Lubna Shaheen, and my four children, are a constant source of support and inspiration for my duties as a school trustee. And having a special needs daughter in school gives me first-hand knowledge of the problems facing our school district.
I came to Canada in 1997 and have lived in Surrey since. After doing many survival jobs, like many immigrants, I went to night school to gain further credentials. I completed Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course at Sauder School of Business from UBC. I have earned the prestigious award of outstanding achievement of excellence in the real estate industry. I take an active part in community associations, events and voluntary service.
I am a member of:
City of Surrey – Multicultural Advisory Committee
Centre for Child Development of the Lower Mainland
City of Surrey – School Travel Planning
Pakistani Canadian Cultural Association (PCCA)
In my first year as a Surrey School Trustee, I have seen first-hand how underfunding has hurt Surrey’s schools, not just for special needs children, but for everyone. I am more committed than ever to fight for the needs of Surrey’s students.
