Linda Stromberg and the Ad Hoc Committee deserves a lot of credit for their continued hard work to keep the need for Capital Funding for Surrey Schools in the spotlight. But it’s a shame the education crisis got to this point in the first place. We can only hope the hard work of these individuals and the citizens of Surrey helps Minister Falcon to see the desperate situation caused by six years of neglect, six year of saying no to capital funding for new schools. Better planning will lead to fewer portables says Dobie

Driving south on 148 Street this morning, I saw yet another portable being moved onto the school grounds of T.E. Scott Elementary. This school already has its fair share of portables. I didn’t stop to count but they are now bordering the cemetery at the back of the school grounds. The land directly across the street from the school has just been cleared for development.  What are they thinking?  Where are these new families going to send their children to school? Trustee candidate Dobie learned value of communication years ago

Communication with all stakeholders is very important and nowhere is this more important that among the school district, the school and parents. Communication within the Surrey School District has had it ups and down over the years. As a parent, my initial experience with non-communication was about 13 years ago when my daughters were in French Immersion in Grades 2 and 4, at A.H.P. Matthew. The District decided to move the program to Simon Cunningham without any consultation with the parents or students, very important stakeholders in the process.
