Since its inception, the Surrey Civic Coalition has lobbied for a second hospital for Surrey. With the Surrey City Hall moving to the Whalley area, SCC believes the current City Hall lands should be considered for a second hospital for Surrey.
The site is approximately halfway between Surrey Memorial Hospital and Peach Arch Hospital (north and south), and approximately halfway between Langley Memorial Hospital and Delta Hospital (east-west).
We are all aware of how Surrey’s rapid growth has put a strain on Surrey Memorial Hospital. Surrey should begin work with the provincial government now to build another hospital. SCC Council candidates are committed to this goal.
Years ago, Surrey First’s predecessor, the Surrey Electors Team, had actually set aside land for a new hospital. In fact it was in the vicinity of No. 10 Highway and 152 Street, about one kilometre from the current City Hall, where SCC proposes Surrey’s second hospital should be built. But instead of working with Victoria for a new hospital and avoiding the overcrowding at SMH, the land was sold to developers for commercial and residential interests.
